About The University of Texas at Tyler

The University of Texas at Tyler was founded in 1971 as Tyler State College. The school was renamed Texas Eastern University in 1975, and then joined the University of Texas System in 1979.

Location

“The Rose Capital”, as it is called, is a mix of urban and rustic lifestyle. Campus

UT Tyler’s main campus is located on 204 acres (0.83 km2), just inside the eastern city limits of Tyler, Texas. The UT Tyler campus is more than 40 years old, with a modern, master-planned and integrated architectural style of buildings.

One of the most prominent features of the UT Tyler campus is the Riter Tower, an 88-foot (27 m) instrument featuring 57 bells. The tower was built with a $1.35 million gift from Mr. and Mrs. A.W. “Dub” Riter Jr. The bells are played with an electronic keyboard connected at sites in the music department, the administration building, or at the base of the tower.

The Herrington Patriot Center includes a state-of-the-art fitness center with cardio-theater and circuit training, racquetball courts, heated pool and spa, indoor walking/jogging track, and gymnasium/convocation area with basketball/volleyball court and seating for 2,300.

The 2,000 seat R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center attracts a wide array of cultural entertainment, and 26,000 patrons attend the performances annually.

The University of Texas at Tyler is home to nearly 100 student organizations, representing the diverse interests of students across campus. There is almost always an event happening on campus.

Requirements:

The minimum requirements varies program to program. Specific programs may have additional requirements. The minimum graduate admission requirements for The Graduate School are below-

Bachelor’s Degree or Recognized Comparable International Degree: Applicants must hold a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution in the US or the foreign equivalent. Applicants should submit official transcripts demonstrating proof of degree directly to the Office of Graduate Admissions.

GRE or GMAT Scores: UT Tyler does not have a designated minimum GRE or GMAT score, but the desired minimum GRE score range for most programs is 290-300.

Proof of English Proficiency: Accepted tests are the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the Pearson Test of English (PTE), the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or the Duolingo English Test (DET).

Minimum scores are as follows:

DET – 105

TOEFL – 79 (iBT) or 550 (pBT)

IELTS – 6.5 band score with 6.0 in each subsection

PTE Academic – 53

Housing:

On-campus housing options include one dormitory, Ornelas Hall, and four apartment complexes, Patriot Village, Liberty Landing and Victory Village which are owned by UT Tyler, and University Pines, which is owned by an outside company but is on university land and works in conjunction with the university. Many international students also live in two nearby apartment complexes- Foundry and Cedar Trails. They are usually cheaper than on-campus housing. Overall these facilities provide an excellent living opportunity and experience for students of UT Tyler. The housing complexes and campus area are safe and UT Tyler has its own police force for safety of the students and staff of UT Tyler.

International community:

There are many international students in UT Tyler from around the world. The campus is a multi-cultural hub representing various cultures, language, life-style and ethnicities. Various international student organizations regularly arrange various events for the international community in the campus.
